Calvin Borel did it again – and is anyone really surprised? The tale at the tape was Borel all the way aboard Super Saver, who dived inside on the last corner before making a hard charge towards the finish. This is Borel’s third Kentucky Derby Win in 4 years. Now, the question is this: does Super Saver have what it takes to win at Pimlico Preakness Stakes in two weeks?
After Super Saver, Paddy O’ Prado and Icebox followed by 2-3 lengths. The rest of the field dribbled in after that, with some of the favorites bringing up the rear. Unlike last year’s unprecedented upset by Mine that Bird at 50-1 odds, this year’s win by Super Saver at 6-1 is more inline with usual Derby races. Horse bettors did fairly well if they avoided the favorites and long shots. If you went for the middle of the pack, you make some cash today.
