Ohio legalized sports betting on December 8, 2021, with HB 29: “Permit certain persons to obtain Ohio veterans ID card,” which repeals section 3772.28 of the Revised Code to legalize and regulate sports gaming in this state, to levy a tax on businesses that provide sports gaming, and to make other changes to the Gambling Law.
The bill was signed by Governor Mike DeWine, who said: “Sports gaming is already in Ohio. Ohio’s just not regulating it. This is something that I think is inevitable. It’s coming to Ohio.” Sports betting went live in Ohio on January 1, 2023.
The Ohio Casino Control Commission now regulates all Ohio sports betting sites in the Buckeye State.
