Mississippi legalized sports betting on May 14, 2018, when the Supreme Court repealed the federal sports ban. On March 13, 2017, Mississippi passed a bill that paved the way for legalized sports betting in 2018: HB 967, “Fantasy Contest Act; revise.”
The bill was signed by Governor Tate Reeves. Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves said, “More people are going to be spending more money on the Gulf Coast, more people are going to be visiting the Gulf Coast and other parts of our state. More people visiting generates more revenue for the entire state. We can capitalize on that and we can utilize that revenue to invest in our state.”
The Mississippi Gaming Commission now regulates all Mississippi sports betting sites in the Magnolia State.

How to Place Bets at Mississippi Sportsbooks
Point Spread
The spread is the sportsbook’s estimated score difference. Lines move as a sportsbook balances its action. Depending on the sport, your Mississippi sportsbook will offer lines for the game, first half, quarter, or period.
For example, if the Dallas Cowboys are -2.5, they would need to win by 3 points or more in order to cover the spread.
If the New Orleans Saints are +2.5, they must win outright or lose by 2 or fewer points.

Texas A&M
Mississippi State
10/01/22 4:00pm EDT | +4.5 -110-4.5 -110 |
Underdog Texas A&M - Texas A&M bettors risk $100 to win $90.91 at -110 odds.
A +4.5 Texas A&M underdog bet wins if they lose by 4 or fewer, tie, or win outright. Your bet loses if they lose by 5 or more.
Favorite Mississippi State - Mississippi State bettors risk $100 to win $90.91 at -110 odds.
A -4.5 Mississippi State favorite bet wins if they win by 5 or more. Your bet loses if they win by 4 or fewer, tie, or lose outright.
Total
Bettors wager whether the combined point total will be over or under the sportsbook’s line. “O” stands for Over, “U” stands for under.
Moneyline
Choose the outright winner. Favorites have a minus value. Underdogs have a plus value. Betting $100 on the Dallas Cowboys to win at -220 odds would result in a $45 win, for example.
Parlays
A parlay combines multiple selections into a single bet. In order for the bet to win, each selection must win. If one selection loses, the entire parlay loses. Parlays can include point spread, total, moneyline, and props from one or more games.
Most sportsbooks allow you to combine selections from multiple leagues and sporting events.
Teasers
A teaser is a variation of the parlay. Bettors can buy points to shift point spread and total lines in their favor in exchange for a lower payout. Combine multiple selections to increase the payout. Teasers are typically restricted to the NFL and NBA.
Futures
A futures bet is placed at any point during the season prior to a championship, playoff, final standing, or league award announcement.
Legal Mississippi sports betting sites have a great selection of futures bets for major US sports leagues. Choose a team or player to win in advance of the event. Bets placed earlier in the season pay more than those placed later on, though they’re harder to win.
Props
Bet on various outcomes indirectly related to a game’s final result. Decide whether a player will achieve a statistic over or under the sportsbook’s line, like the number of points, passes, tackles, goals, or hits in a game.
Sportsbooks also offer props for events unrelated to the game itself. Many enjoy betting whether the length of the Super Bowl National Anthem will go over or under the sportsbook’s line.
Most Popular Sport in Mississippi
The state’s most popular sport is college football. Mississippians love to follow the Mississippi State Bulldogs, who play their games at Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field in Mississippi State. The other Mississippi sports teams are the Ole Miss Rebels and Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles.
