FAQs on the 2023-2024 College Football Regular Season Undefeated Teams
At the end of the 2023-2024 College Football Regular Season, Michigan and South Dakota State were the two final undefeated teams.
Michigan
- Coach – Jim Harbaugh
- Top Players – Junior QB J.J. McCarthy, Senior RB Blake Corum, Sophomore DB Will Johnson, and Junior LB Junior Colson
- Bowl Games – 27-20 Rose Bowl (CFP Semifinal) victory over Alabama and 34-13 CFP National Championship win against Washington
- Key Matchup – defeated No. 2 Ohio State, 30-24, on November 25, 2023
The 2023 campaign had quite a rollercoaster feel for the Michigan Wolverines, as head coach Jim Harbaugh faced multiple three-game suspensions. He was suspended for the first three games of the season, but Michigan was firing on all cylinders, as the Wolverines won their first three games by the scores of 30-3, 35-7, and 31-6. After Harbaugh returned, Michigan moved to 4-0 with a dominating win against Rutgers. The Wolverines then went on the road and won multiple blowouts at Nebraska and Minnesota.
Unfortunately, controversy continued to swirl around the program, as Harbaugh was suspended for the final three games of the regular season. On November 11, No. 10 Penn State hosted the Wolverines. Penn State gave Michigan its first true test, as the Wolverines won by just nine points: 24–15. That was the first of three consecutive close games for the Wolverines. Harbaugh then returned for the Big Ten Championship, a 26-0 shutout of Iowa Hawkeyes.
Michigan had been searching for a national championship for a long time, and J.J. McCarthy and Blake Corum were key to the Rose Bowl overtime win over No. 4 Alabama and the CFP National Championship victory over No. 2 Washington. It was truly an unbelievable football season for Michigan, and they could not be stopped en route to the 15-0 (9-0) record. After the 2023 season and national championship, Jim Harbaugh accepted a job with the Los Angeles Chargers to become their head coach. Sherrone Moore takes over the head coaching position for the Wolverines in hopes of making it back-to-back undefeated seasons for Michigan.

The largest victory of 2023 for South Dakota State came on September 16 when the Jackrabbits beat Drake, 70-7. For the next three weeks, they kept up their offense, as they scored at least 40 points in three straight wins. Afterward, the next four wins came against ranked opponents, including the 37-3 blowout of rival South Dakota, which had a No. 4 ranking at the time. The last of those four wins was a 34-0 shutout of No. 22 Youngtown State.
South Dakota State hosted the first four rounds of the FCS Playoffs, as the Jackrabbits had multiple-score wins in the first two rounds. Then, No. 6 Villanova gave them a tough test, as SDSU won, 23-12. The Jackrabbits rode the momentum into the FCS Semifinal, as they won, 59-0, against No. 5 Albany. SDSU culminated the season with another amazing defensive performance. At Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, the Jackrabbits won, 23-3, in the FCS Championship against No. 2 Montana to make it back-to-back titles.
