Key players

The Rockies lost John Gray as he signed with the Texas Rangers. With a lost piece of a rotation, Colorado needs a solution before the beginning of the season. The departure of Gray may force Colorado to promote one of their top prospects, lefty Ryan Rolison.

German Marquez posted a 12-11 record with a 4.40 ERA. This is about his average ERA, but with a 37-23 record from 2017-19, Colorado hopes for an improvement.

Charlie Blackmon batted .270, with 13 home runs and 78 RBIs while Ramiel Tapia gave the Rockies decent average in the lead off spot behind a .273 BA and on base percentage of .327.

The last spot in the outfield is however a mystery. Between Yonathan Daza, Garrett Hampson and Sam Hilliard, Colorado has many players to choose from.

NL West division

Colorado competes in arguably the toughest division in baseball. The Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres fought for playoff spots while the Rockies plummeted to the bottom of the NL West. Colorado tallied a 74-87 record in 2021 that put them 32.5 games back from first place.

According to BetRivers, the Rockies are +10,000 to make the 2022 World Series. These odds place them  just above the Arizona Diamondbacks in the division.

With the Los Angeles Dodgers at 600, it is clear they are the favorites in the NL West. The San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants are well behind as their odds are 1,600 and 2,000 respectively.

Overall thoughts

The tough opponents make it hard for Colorado to move up in their division.

The strong World Series odds indicate people’s belief that these teams are strong contenders for the playoffs in general. With a division winner and two wild cards a likely possibility this leaves the Rockies out of the picture.

These odds also project the Rockies in the bottom five of the league for a World Series appearance.

Overall, do not place a large bet on Colorado to make the 2022 World Series. The lack of solid pitching will be the team’s downfall.

Even in a hitter-friendly park, the offense for the Rockies are not intimidating, especially when compared with other teams in the National League.

At +10,000 it is a huge reward, but for the smart bettor the risk is much more higher, so it is not worth the shot.
