Heat rout Bulls, Grizz back from 17 down
The Miami Heat spanked the Chicago Bulls 88-65 to take a 3-1 lead in that series. Lebron James led the way with his usual 27/7/8 while Chris Bosh chipped in with 16. The Bulls shot just 25% (19-74) from the field and just two more FGs than turnovers. Chicago also set franchise lows for points in a playoff game with 65 (previous 69) and in a playoff quarter with just nine.
The Memphis Grizzlies battled back from down 17 in the first half to force overtime and eventually get a 103-97 win and cover over Oklahoma City. Mike Conley had 23 while Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol had 23 a piece. Kevin Durant had 27 points for the Thunder but was 2-13 from the floor in the fourth quarter and OT for just five points.
Knicks/Pacers Game Four, Warriors/Spurs Game Five
Tonight’s TNT NBA playoff double-header features the Knicks/Pacers Game Four early and the Warriors/Spurs Game Five late. At 7:00 PM EST, Indiana is a -5.5 favorite with the high/low down half a tick to 180. At 9:35 PM EST in Alamo City, the Spurs are down a point to -6.5 with total unmoved at 195.
Rangers blank Caps, Bruins miracle OT win
There were two historic Game Sevens in last night’s NHL playoffs. The Rangers blew out the Caps 5-0 as five different Broadway Blues scored and Henrik Lundqvist pitched his second consecutive shutout. It was the first time in Ranger franchise history that the team was able to win a Game Seven on the road. They were previously 0-5. It was also the first time in NFL history that a goalie led a team back from down 3-2 with B2B shutout.
In Boston, the Bruins beat Toronto 5-4 in overtime in one of the greatest comebacks in NBA history. Down 4-1 midway through the third period, Nathan Horton lit the lamp to cut the deficit to 4-2. Boston pulled their goalie and got two goals in 31 seconds to force the overtime. Patrice Bergeron got the winner at 6:05 of extra time. It was the fist time in NHL history that a team down three goals in the third period of a Game Seven to come back and win.
The Bruins move on to meet the Rangers. The matchup features two of the original six NHL teams and they have not met in the playoffs in more than 40 (1973) years.
MLB News and Notes
Jordan Zimmermann won his National League best seventh game, Ryan Zimmermann did the damage with the bat and Bryce Harper lost a run in with the right field wall in the Nat’s 6-2 win over the Dodgers on Monday night. Jordan went 7 2/3 solid innings striking out five and walking none to pick up the W. Ryan had a two run double and three RBIs in supplying the offence and Bryce Harper took 11 stitches in his chin after hitting the wall going back on a long fly ball. Harper is doubtful for tonight’s rematch in Los Angeles.
Mancini sacked at Manchester City
Just one year after guiding the Blues to their first English Premiership title in 44 years, Manchester City has fired coach Roberto Mancini after winning no hardware this year. The final straw came Saturday when City lost 1-0 to bottom of the table Wigan in the FA Cup final. Reports have Mancini being replaced by Malaga coach Manuel Pellegrini. Mancini still has four years remaining on his contract.
Raven TE Pitta signs restricted free agent tender
After an off-season of post-Super Bowl defections, the Baltimore Ravens have re-upped restricted free agent TE to a second round tender. Pitta will make $2.023 million in 2013-2014. A fourth-round pick out of BYU in the 2010 NFL Draft, Pitta had a career year last season, catching 61 passes for 669 yards and seven touchdowns. He was big part of the Raven’s playoff run catching 14 passes for 163 yards and three touchdowns.
Former Okie State QB Lunt will transfer to …..
Former Oklahoma State QB Wes Lunt will transfer to one of five schools ….. Southern Miss, Illinois, Louisville, Tennessee or Vanderbilt. Lunt started for the Cowboys last year as a freshman but missed significant time with injuries. Lunt threw for 1,108 yards, six touchdowns and seven interceptions in his limited playing time.
