FAQs on the 2022-2023 College Football Regular Season Undefeated Teams
At the end of the 2022-2023 College Football Regular Season, Georgia and Holy Cross were the two final undefeated teams.
Georgia
- Coach – Kirby Smart
- Top Players – Graduate QB Stetson Bennett, Junior DT Jalen Carter, and Senior LB Nolan Smith
- Bowl Games – 42-41 Peach Bowl victory over Ohio State and 65-7 CFP National Championship victory over TCU
- Key Matchup – defeated No. 1 Tennessee, 27-13, on November 5, 2022
The 2022 Georgia Bulldogs football team was one of the best in recent memory. Prior to the SEC Championship and the CFP games, Georgia’s biggest win was against the No. 1 Tennessee Volunteers on November 5, 2022. Georgia won by two touchdowns against rival Tennessee at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia. Led by QB Stetson Bennett, DT Jalen Carter, and LB Nolan Smith, the Bulldogs could not be stopped all season.
Kirby Smart led Georgia to an unbelievable 15-0 season – the first in school history – that also included a 50-30 win over LSU in the SEC Championship Game on December 3, 2022. After winning the SEC Championship, the Bulldogs were victorious in the CFP Semifinal at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl: a 42-41 victory against No. 4 Ohio State on New Year’s Eve. Georgia’s season culminated in a blowout victory, 65-7, against the No. 3 TCU Horned Frogs to claim the national championship on January 9, 2023. It was truly an unforgettable season for Georgia.
Holy Cross
- Coach – Bob Chesney
- Top Players – Junior QB Matthew Sluka, Sophomore RB Jordan Fuller, and RB Peter Oliver
- FCS Playoffs – 42-21 loss to South Dakota State in the Quarterfinals
- Key Matchup – 53-52 overtime victory over No. 22 Fordham on October 29, 2022
The 2022 Holy Cross Crusaders football team had a similar regular season to the Georgia Bulldogs in terms of record. Holy Cross won all 11 of its games prior to the FCS Playoffs and had a tremendous season. Junior QB Matthew Sluka, Sophomore RB Jordan Fuller, and RB Peter Oliver led a powerful offense that scored at least 30 points in all but one regular season game.
The biggest matchup of the regular season occurred on October 29, 2022 against the No. 22 Fordham Rams, as the Crusaders won, 53-52, in overtime. The Holy Cross football team gave its crowd a game to remember as the Crusaders continued their winning streak with the home victory.
Then on December 3, 2022, Holy Cross hosted No. 15 New Hampshire in the second round of the FCS Playoffs and won, 35-19. Unfortunately, a week later, the 2022 season for Holy Cross ended in the FCS Quarterfinals, as the Crusaders fell to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits, 42-21. Even with the Crusaders’ loss to the Jackrabbits, it was truly an awe-inspiring season for the Crusaders.
