Los Angeles Dodgers +315

The best team in baseball should own the best odds to win, and here is no exception.

The Dodgers are top five in almost all offensive categories, except strikeouts and stolen bases. The pitching is equally impressive as the team held the top spot in team ERA, opponent batting average and WHIP before Monday’s contest.

What pushed the Dodgers to new heights may be the signing of Freddie Freeman in the offseason. The first basemen put up incredible numbers in his first season as a Dodger. Before Monday, Freeman entered play with a .327 batting average. He hit 20 homers and drove in 98 RBIs, and may be in the NL MVP discussion.

Tony Gonsolin and Tyler Anderson made a huge difference in the starting rotation. Signed to a one-year $8 million deal, Anderson posted a career year in 2022. He owned a 2.57 ERA, the best in his career, a WHIP of 1.00, opponent batting average of .221 en route to a 15-5 record. Gonsolin pitched on Monday, and he finished the regular season with a 16-1 record. He owned a sensational 2.14 ERA.

The Dodgers own the top seed in the NL, so LA owns home-field advantage every series, no small factor in playoff baseball.

Bottom line, the Dodgers are perennial World Series favorites because the team finds ways to win, and this year is no exception.

Houston Astros +385

Justin Verlander led the league in ERA, and he owned a stellar 17-4 record. Another pitcher in the top 15 for ERA was Framber Valdez as he owned a 2.89 ERA. The pitching for Houston is what makes this team scary. In the past five seasons, the Astros team ERA placed it in the top 10 four of those times.

The Astors failed to post a team batting average in the top 10, but managed the seventh-best team on-base percentage (OBP). It is a stark contrast from last season where Houston posted the top batting average and OBP. Yordan Alvarez performed incredibly well however. His average hovered around .300, he drove in 96 runs and hit 37 homers. It was a breakout year for the young Alvarez.

Houston owns a solid rotation that can stymie any team, and this will be what gets the Astros deep in the postseason.

The No. 1 seed in the AL, home-field advantage plays a huge part in the postseason, which will help the Astros as well.

Atlanta Braves +500

The Braves pushed the Mets out of the division title with a sweep in a weekend series and a win in Tuesday’s contest. Atlanta looks poised for playoff baseball and clinching the No.2 seed is huge.

Michael Harris II and Spencer Strider helped immensely, and look like viable options for Rookie of the Year. One of the top outfield prospects in 2022, Harris II hit an impressive .298 before Monday, and 19 homers.

With an 11-5 record and 2.67 ERA, Strider stepped into a starting role incredibly well. What is more incredible is Strider posted a 13.81 strikeouts per nine innings (K/9). After being used for a setup role, Strider made his first MLB start against the Diamondbacks late May, since then posted three outings where the opposing team scored three or more runs.

Another pleasant surprise was the solid season from Dansby Swanson. While he may not match his career-high 27 homers, he raised his average from .248 in 2021 to .277. He drove in a career-best 100 RBIs. He’s provided a spark to the offense no matter where he bats in the order.

Since June 1, the Braves posted the best record at 78-33 before Wednesday’s contest.

Atlanta is coming in hot to defend the 2021 title it won.
