Tom Brady is stuffed with so much ambition, that it’s hard to imagine the man ever retiring. The National Football League Players Association may have to write rules about how players can take the field with a walking cane. Even at 45, Brady is once again poised to put up big numbers as quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Despite flirting with retirement, and rumors of marital problems, Brady is forging ahead for one possible last season with Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers are hoping Brady’s production can be similar to last season when he led the league in passing yards and helped Tampa Bay reached the NFC Divisional Round.
Here’s a look at some of Brady’s betting numbers and a rundown of his career.
What’s my age, again?
George Blanda, a Hall-0f-Fame kicker/quarterback who also played into his late 40s during a career that spanned from 1949 to 1975, never passed for more than 3,330 yards per season. In 1962, Blanda threw a still NFL record 42 interceptions in a season where went 11-3 as a starter for the AFL’s Houston Oilers.
Brady passed for 5,316 yards for Tampa Bay as a 44-year-old veteran. For this season, the passing totals are ambitious for Brady. The over/under on his passing yardage has been set at 4,550.5 yards. If you are interested in a passing touchdowns total, Brady’s number has been set at 34.5.
Total interceptions for Brady has been set at 10.5. A few special prop bets are set for Brady to throw for 40 or more touchdowns (+335) and Brady to throw for more than 5,000 yards (+500).
Brady saved 2000 quarterback class
Much is made of Brady not being selected in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft. A lot of the focus has been centered on the San Francisco 49ers, Brady’s favorite team as a kid, drafting Hofstra’s Giovanni Carmozzi, who later went into goat herding, in the third round. But during Brady’s time at Michigan, there wasn’t much to indicate he would become a future star.
Brady passed for 2,217 yards as a senior, completing 61 percent of his passes. He threw 16 touchdowns to six interceptions. That allowed him to fall to the New England Patriots, where Bill Belichick and company decided to take a flyer on Brady.
It is worth nothing that out of the 12 quarterbacks drafted that year, only three would lead their teams to playoff wins. Chad Pennington had a solid career with the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins. Pennington would win two playoff games as Jets quarterback. Marc Bulger, who was drafted that year by the St. Louis Rams, would lead his team to playoff win as well.
A perfect marriage
Brady and Belichick’s relationship soured by the end, but both will be forever tied together in history. Two guys who want to win, at all costs, and never seem to tire of the chase for Lombardi Trophies. During their time together in New England, Brady and Belichick helped create a dynasty unseen in pro football history.
From 2000 to 2019, the Patriots won six Super Bowls and played in three others. Belichick never found Brady a star receiver, but found the right mix of guys for the style of offense the Patriots ran.
What can Brady do in 2022?
Brady’s first 22 seasons in the league have produced an absurd 84,520 passing yards. Since 2017, Brady has thrown for 4,000 or more yards with 24 or more touchdown passes in each season. While Brady’s interception numbers have ticked up by his standards — he’s thrown 10 or more in three of the past four seasons — he doesn’t seem to be slowing down too much.
Tampa Bay has been smart by finding him talented targets. The Buccaneers this season will still have Chris Godwin, Mike Evans and brought in veteran Julio Jones. Tampa Bay, which won the Super Bowl two years ago, are once again focused on winning a championship.
Things have changed as offensive-minded coach Bruce Arians has moved to the front office in place of Todd Bowles. While Brady will likely have a large say in the offseason, Tampa Bay may not want to push the issue too hard to keep him fresh for the playoffs.
The best bets for Brady may be over 10.5 interceptions, as his arm strength has faded slightly, but still seeing him get over 4,500 passing yards. It would be surprising to see him get over 5,000 again.
